Banfield buys PETsMART's 118 clinics, upgrades them to full-service hospitals, and changes the name to Banfield, The Pet Hospital.
Banfield has become the largest veterinary practice in the world, operating more than 300 hospitals and 100 clinics in 38 states and employing more than 800 veterinarians.
