Accessibility Statement

Hannah Pet Hospital is committed to making hannahpethospital.com usable for everyone, including visitors who rely on assistive technologies such as screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, screen magnifiers, voice control, and switch devices.

Effective Date: January 1, 2026

Our commitment

We believe veterinary care information should be available to every Pet Parent. As part of that commitment, we work to ensure our website is designed and built so that it can be used and understood by the widest possible audience — regardless of ability or technology.

Conformance status

We aim to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at the Level AA conformance target. WCAG is the international standard for digital accessibility, defining how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities.

Our site is regularly reviewed against this standard. Where we fall short, we treat it as a defect to fix — not a feature.

Features we've built in

  • Keyboard navigation: all interactive elements (links, buttons, form fields, the mobile menu, modal dialogs) are reachable and operable using the Tab key, Enter, and Escape.
  • Skip-to-content link: the first focusable element on every page lets keyboard and screen-reader users skip past navigation to the main content.
  • Visible focus indicators: the browser's default focus outlines are preserved — we never suppress them in CSS.
  • Semantic HTML landmarks: every page uses <header>, <nav>, <main>, and <footer> so assistive tech can navigate by region.
  • Heading hierarchy: h1 → h2 → h3 are used in order; we don't skip levels.
  • Image alt text: meaningful images have descriptive alt attributes; decorative images use empty alt to avoid screen-reader noise.
  • Form labels and error messages: every form input has a programmatically-associated <label>; required fields are marked both visually and via the required attribute.
  • Color contrast: body text meets WCAG AA contrast against its backgrounds (4.5:1 normal text, 3:1 large text).
  • Tap targets on touch devices: interactive elements are at least 44×44px on touch (per Apple Human Interface Guidelines).
  • Respect for reduced motion: visitors with prefers-reduced-motion: reduce enabled get a static experience — autoplaying video stops, animations are neutralized, transitions become instant.
  • Modal accessibility: dialogs use role="dialog", trap focus while open, return focus on close, and close with the Escape key.

Supported assistive technologies

We test against current versions of the most widely used assistive technologies, including:

  • VoiceOver on macOS and iOS
  • NVDA on Windows
  • JAWS on Windows
  • TalkBack on Android
  • Keyboard-only navigation across major desktop browsers
  • System-level zoom up to 200%

Known limitations

We're transparent about the parts of the site we know aren't yet fully accessible:

  • Embedded YouTube videos: we use YouTube's player, which we don't control. YouTube provides captions for most videos but a few may be missing accurate captions.
  • Embedded Google Maps: the location maps on our Locations page rely on Google's embed, which has known limitations for screen-reader users. The same information is available as plain-text addresses with directions links elsewhere on the page.
  • Third-party PDFs: our Membership Agreement and Privacy Policy are also offered as PDFs (in addition to the HTML version of the Privacy Policy). PDF screen-reader support varies by reader; the HTML versions are the most accessible.
  • Older blog content: our blog at /blogs/ runs on WordPress and predates this accessibility statement; we're working through older posts to bring them up to standard.

Feedback and reporting an accessibility issue

If something on hannahpethospital.com isn't working for you, please tell us. We treat every accessibility report as a defect to be fixed, not a complaint. Include the page URL, what you were trying to do, what assistive technology you were using, and what happened.

You can reach us by:

  • Email: [email protected] (please use subject line "Website Accessibility")
  • Phone: 503.905.5200
  • Mail: Hannah Pet Hospital, 10526 SE Washington St, Ste A-103, Portland, OR 97216

We aim to respond to accessibility feedback within 5 business days. Where possible, we'll suggest an alternative way to get the information you needed while we work on a permanent fix.

Formal complaints

If you've reported an issue and aren't satisfied with our response, you have the right to file a formal complaint. In the United States, the Department of Justice enforces the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) through the Disability Rights Section, which accepts complaints at ada.gov.
