Understanding the Hannah Membership Model

You may have seen TikToks, Reddit threads, Facebook comments, or online reviews about Hannah. This page is here to explain โ€“ in plain English โ€“ how our model works today, why it exists, and what you can expect as a Pet Parent.

3โ€“5 minute read Based on our current Membership Agreement

What Hannah Is (and Isnโ€™t)

Hannah's mission is to help Pets live longer, healthier, happier lives by making high-quality veterinary care more predictable and affordable โ€“ especially when Pets need ongoing treatment.

What Hannah is

  • โœ” A Membership-based veterinary care program (TLC Plan)
  • โœ” Predictable monthly pricing instead of unpredictable visit-by-visit bills
  • โœ” Lifetime veterinary partnership: prevention, illness, injury, and emergencies at Hannah locations
  • โœ” Behavior, training, and Pet-family support as part of the relationship

What Hannah is not

  • โœ– Traditional Pet insurance with deductibles and claim forms
  • โœ– A per-visit, pay-as-you-go clinic
  • โœ– A rescue or shelter (we do help match Pets and families, but we're not a rescue)
  • โœ– A system where decisions happen without you โ€“ Pet Parents are part of every major decision

Whatโ€™s Included vs. Not Included

Your TLC Plan is designed to bundle almost all of your Petโ€™s veterinary care at Hannah into one monthly fee. Hereโ€™s what that means in practice.

Included under TLC
  • โœ”Routine wellness exams
  • โœ”Illness & injury care at Hannah hospitals
  • โœ”Emergency care at Hannah hospitals
  • โœ”Surgeries, diagnostics, and dental care provided by Hannah
  • โœ”Medications on our formulary
  • โœ”Obedience training and support
  • โœ”Access to our 24/7 Hannah Help Line
Not included under TLC
  • โœ–Emergency services at non-Hannah providers
  • โœ–Outside specialists and referral hospitals
  • โœ–Non-formulary drugs not supplied by Hannah
  • โœ–Organ transplants, neurosurgery, and experimental or cosmetic procedures
  • โœ–At-home care or hospice

Pet Ownership & Medical Decisions

Two of the most talked-about parts of Hannahโ€™s model online are (1) who technically owns the Pet, and (2) who makes serious medical decisions. Here is how it works today.

Who makes medical decisions?
  • ๐Ÿพ Hananh promises to never recommend unnecessary care for a Hannah Pet or withhold necessary care in order to save us money.
  • ๐Ÿพ You and your Hannah veterinarian decide together on exams, treatment plans, and next steps.
  • ๐Ÿพ Hannah does not euthanize Pets because care is "too expensive." Euthanasia decisions are only made when medically necessary to end suffering and with the Pet Parent's agreement, except in rare emergencies when you cannot be reached or you have surrendered the Pet.
  • ๐Ÿพ If you and Hannah ever strongly disagree on a course of care, you can choose to take ownership of your Pet and pursue your own treatment path.
Why does Hannah "own" the Pet on paper?

The fact is, owning the Pet simply makes it possible for a Hannah Pet to get all the veterinary care it needs without a Pet Parent having to worry about how to pay for it, because Hannah is the owner and that becomes Hannah's responsibility.

  • ๐Ÿพ This structure helps us provide lifetime care "at scale" and accept many Pets that might otherwise be declined elsewhere.
  • ๐Ÿพ You can take full legal ownership back at any time by paying the pre-agreed Pet Purchase Fee, which decreases every year you're enrolled.
  • ๐Ÿพ Most Members never need to purchase their Pet back โ€“ they choose to stay on the program for life.

How Cancellation Works

Life changes. Our Membership Agreement is built to give you options if you ever need to leave the program or change how your Petโ€™s care is handled.

Option 1: You take ownership

You may end your TLC Plan at any time and take full legal ownership of your Pet by paying:

  • ๐ŸพThe Adjusted Pet Purchase Fee (the amount disclosed on your TLC Addendum, reduced each full year)
  • ๐ŸพAny remaining startup fees (such as Sick or Injured Care, if applicable)

Your monthly TLC fee stops on the day you assume a Pet Ownership Transfership Agreement and vaccine records for your Pet.

Option 2: You stop paying

If you stop your TLC payments and don't make other arrangements:

  • ๐ŸพAfter 60 days past due, your Plan ends and you automatically assume ownership of your Pet.
  • ๐ŸพYou are then charged the same Adjusted Pet Purchase Fee and remaining balances you would have paid if you had formally chosen to purchase your Pet.

Your Pet remains in your home and care. This ensures you maintain your relationship with your Pet.

Option 3: You return the Pet to Hannah

If you can no longer keep your Pet:

  • ๐ŸพYou may surrender the Pet to Hannah at a scheduled appointment.
  • ๐ŸพYou will not owe the Pet Purchase Fee because Hannah retains ownership.
  • ๐ŸพYou are responsible only for any unpaid balances or fees already incurred.

Your monthly TLC fee stops once the surrender is complete. Hannah then works to find the Pet an appropriate home whenever possible.

Common Questions We Hear

We know our model is different. Here are straightforward answers to some of the questions that come up most often โ€“ online and in person.

"Will Hannah ever make a life-or-death decision without me?"

Our standard practice is to discuss all serious medical decisions with you and get your consent. Hannah does not euthanize Pets because care is "too expensive." Only when a Pet is suffering and euthanasia is medically necessary โ€“ and you agree โ€“ will we recommend that option. The only exception is a rare emergency where you cannot be reached or you have legally surrendered the Pet. Unlike other clinics, Hannah will never euthanize a Pet because the Pet Parent cannot afford a simple procedure like a broken leg.

โ€œWhy canโ€™t I just pay as I go like a normal clinic?โ€

Traditional clinics bill one visit at a time. Our TLC model bundles preventive care, illness, injury, and emergencies at Hannah into a single monthly amount. That lets us accept many Pets with chronic needs and helps Pet Parents avoid painful โ€œcare vs. costโ€ choices.

โ€œDo I lose access to my Petโ€™s records if I leave?โ€

When ownership transfers to you, you receive vaccine records and a Pet Ownership Transfer Agreement. If your Pet has medical history with us, our Member Advocate team can help coordinate appropriate documentation with your new veterinary provider.

โ€œIs this model right for every family?โ€

No model is perfect for everyone. Some families love the predictability and deep coverage of a TLC-style program. Others prefer traditional clinics or insurance. We encourage you to read the full Agreement, ask every question you have, and choose what feels best for your Pet and your situation.

Is Hannah Right for You?

Hannah's is a new, very unique Pet care model and it isn't a perfect fit for every Pet Parent. It may be right for you if:

  • ๐Ÿพ You are willing to consider new ideas and try things that could help the Pet you love live a better life, even if you've never considered those ideas before.
  • ๐Ÿพ You see Pets as part of your family and recognize that your love is the key to that relationship โ€“ just like you have with every other family member. In other words, the Pet you love is more than "just property" to you though you realize the legal realities.
  • ๐Ÿพ You agree that almost everybody would take better care of Pets if care was more convenient and affordable. A $3,000-$5,000 veterinary bill can and does happen. It can cause substantial hardship for a Pet's family, and forces many Pet Parents to consider, and sometimes make, horrible, life-ending decisions for the Pet. In other words, most folks cannot easily afford a big, unexpected veterinary expense, but that shouldn't be something they have to worry about or let that keep them from adding a Pet to the family. Hannah's was created to provide a solution for those families โ€“ affordably. However, if you are already getting all the preventive care and training that your Pet needs and are comfortable with the risk of a big, unexpected expense โ€“ and don't need or want a more cost effective solution โ€“ then Hannah's probably isn't for you.

Hannah's is for those who have a Pet they love (or intend to get one) and want that Pet to live a long, happy life with their family. They insist on excellent veterinary care for the Pet, but want a good value that's predictable and affordable on a monthly basis. And, they want protection from a big, unexpected veterinary expense.
